Our People, Our Strength

Declan Harrigan

CEO/FOUNDER/Trainer

About Me

Hi, I’m Declan, Founder and CEO of S.M.I.L.E.

I started out back home in Ireland, where I first found my passion for supporting young people through life’s tougher times. Over the years I’ve worked with everything from self-harm and anxiety to bereavement and the lasting impact of conflict. It’s been more than a decade now, and I still feel privileged every day to walk alongside young people when they need someone in their corner.

When I moved to West Lothian in 2012, I brought that same passion with me. Since then, I’ve not only supported young people directly but also had the chance to lead community projects and deliver training. Helping others gain the tools and confidence to make a difference in their own communities. I’ve always believed change doesn’t just come from one person, but from empowering everyone to play their part.

At the heart of it all is my family, my wife and young son. They’re my driving force and my biggest inspiration.

Being part of the S.M.I.L.E. team isn’t just a job to me; it feels like a family, and I’m proud to be part of something that’s making a real difference here in West Lothian.
